Storage, motorised and plain bases. Size and fabric are chosen to match your mattress.
Choosing a base
A base carries the mattress, but it also decides how well the mattress breathes, how high the bed sits, and in some models how much storage the room has.
Storage (ottoman) base
Lifts on gas struts and opens the entire footprint of the bed for storage — duvets, bedding, seasonal clothes. In a small apartment the space it frees up is close to a wardrobe. The one thing to get right is matching the struts to the weight of the mattress; a heavy mattress on weak struts means a lid that drops. We work that out when measuring.
Adjustable (motorised) base
Head and foot sections rise separately by remote. In a double setup the two sides work independently — one person can sit up reading while the other lies flat. Also chosen by people who need to keep their head or legs elevated.
Plain base
No mechanism. Sits lower, takes less room and costs less. If you are not going to use the space under the bed, there is no reason to pay for a mechanism.
Fabric: All bases are made to order from a fabric swatch book. You can match the headboard exactly or deliberately contrast it. The swatches are at our stores.
