The pieces that finish the room

Once the mattress, base and headboard are chosen, these small pieces are what complete the room. They are all fabric-covered, which gives a softer look than wooden furniture and lets them be matched to the headboard.

Bedside tables

Single-drawer tables sit either side of the bed with enough surface for a lamp, a phone and a book. Tufted fronts work with classic headboards, plain fronts with modern sets. A light-coloured top makes the room feel less heavy.

Ottomans

An ottoman at the foot of the bed serves as both a seat and somewhere to put the bedspread. Having somewhere to sit while putting shoes on turns out to matter more in the morning than you would expect.
