Mattress Protectors
The protector is the most overlooked product in the catalogue — and the one thing keeping a mattress warranty alive. It costs about one per cent of the mattress.
Why a protector is not optional
Its job is simple and the consequence is not: it keeps stains and moisture off the mattress. Something many people do not know: most mattress warranties are void if the mattress is stained. The product that prevents that costs about one per cent of the mattress it protects.
Waterproof or cotton
With small children, pets, or drinks in bed, you want a waterproof one. The old problem with waterproof protectors was the rustle and the heat; membrane models block liquid while still passing air, so the two are no longer a trade-off.
Without that risk, a padded cotton protector both guards the mattress and adds a thin comfort layer on top.
Care
The protector is the only washable part of a mattress — that is the whole point of it. Washing it monthly adds real years to the mattress. Choose the size by the depth of your mattress; on a tall mattress a shallow protector pings off the corners.
