A thick duvet is too much for most of the year in Cyprus. The number that matters when choosing one is the TOG rating, not the thickness.

What TOG means

TOG measures how much warmth a duvet holds. It gets confused with thickness, but they are not the same: a thin down duvet can be warmer than a thick synthetic one. TOG is the number to look at.

  • TOG 4.5 and below — a summer duvet.
  • TOG 6.5–8.5 — mild and cool seasons. Most of the Cyprus year sits in this band, and it is also the range that works in an air-conditioned room.
  • TOG 8.5–10.5 — the warm class, for winter.

In most homes, keeping two duvets works better than one compromise duvet.

Filling

Goose down gives the most warmth for its weight; in Hungarian down, the proportion of neck down sets the quality. Bamboo absorbs moisture and evens out temperature — the right material if you sweat at night. Cotton and microfibre blends go in the washing machine, which is why they end up in children's rooms and on beds that get stripped often.

For anyone allergic to feathers, microfibre fillings stand in for down: similar lightness, no allergen.

Size

A duvet needs enough overhang on both sides, or two people will spend the night pulling it back and forth. Tell us your mattress size and we will work out the duvet size with you.
