How hotel supply works
Choosing mattresses for accommodation is a different problem from choosing one for a home. A different person sleeps on the same bed every night; the weight range is wide and the firmness preference is unknown. So hotel mattresses are chosen for a firmness that suits the majority and a construction that stands up to wear.
- Double-sided models come first: turned at intervals, wear is shared between two faces and the replacement cycle stretches out.
- Protectors are standard practice. The cost of protecting a mattress is close to nothing next to the cost of replacing it.
- Standardising on one size makes it far easier to hold stock for individual replacements later.
